Food Market Feasibility Assessment

Community Futures, Kamloops BC

2016

Urban Food Strategies, in collaboration with Greenchain Consulting, Sustainability Ventures, and TRU Consulting, conducted a comprehensive assessment of the feasibility of a downtown market for Kamloops.  Through engaging stakeholders, reviewing best practices from other jurisdictions, and making calculated projections, the team produced a feasibility study that recommended a business model, site, and management structure for the market.

The study found that if the market could achieve certain revenues after five years, it would be feasible in the long-term.  The market model recommended included permanent and seasonal farmer marketing areas both indoor and outdoor, food enterprise incubator facilities, café, brew pub, and space for community education around food systems.
