Needs Assessment and Implementation Plan

Regional Health Authorities in BC are beginning to work more closely with local government on community food security. In order to establish an informed approach, PHSA and the BC Centre For Disease Control contracted Urban Food Strategies to conduct a needs assessment and implementation plan to clarify what the needs are for local governments in addressing food security as well as what the health authority needs are to be able to enabling/supporting local government strategies to address community food security.

Urban Food Strategies held focus group conversations with four out of five health authorities in BC, assessed and identified specific needs, and recommended an implementation plan for developing training modules, white papers, information resources, communications strategies, and communities of practice, among other strategies for Health Authorities to work more closely with local government on food security.  A final report was produced to summarize the findings and recommendations of the research.
